Yuvraj Singh Hits 6 Sixes in an Over [Video]
Posted By :Pradeep on September 19th, 2007, 5:26 pm GMT |

Gary Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, and now Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvraj Singh smashed six sixes in an over for the first time in Twenty20 cricket as India scored an impressive 18-run victory over England in their Twenty20 World Championship Super Eights match in Kingsmead.

Yuvraj Singh’s savage assault on Stuart Broad made him the first batsman to hit six sixes in an over in Twenty20 internationals and the fourth in senior cricket.

Garry Sobers and Ravi Shastri did it in first-class matches, Herschelle Gibbs in the ODI (World Cup) and now Yuvraj who has done it in Twenty20

During that assault Yuvraj Singh reached fifty from just 12 balls to broke the record of fastest 50 of all the format (Test, ODI and Twenty20)

What Yuvraj Singh had to say after match,

I just went in to slog, With two overs to go, I just thought I’d use the crease and timed it well. In England I got hit for five sixes by Dimitri Mascarenhas, so I thought I had to take my chance.

Yuvraj Singh on his 6 sixes
“The first one was the longest one. Second one was, I think, square; third one was long-off; fourth was over point; fifth was a mishit over midwicket and sixth was again to long-on.”

Audio Interview of Yuvraj after 6 sixes

It was Yuvraj Singh’s on-field war of words with Andrew Flintoff that spurred the left-hander to unleash his fury and hit Stuart Broad for six consecutive sixes. Yuvraj had hit Flintoff for back-to-back fours after which the duo were seen exchanging words. Soon after the incident, Yuvraj hit Broad for six sixes in a row and also hit Flintoff for a maximum before getting out.

Sweet Revenge - The perfect reply to the humiliation of five sixes by Mascarenhas on his last over at Oval (6th ODI)

Excerpt from Cricinfo’s ball-by-ball commentary - [ScoreCard]

18.6
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX

Broad looks quizzical … and miserable. Can he … can Yuvraj do it …

18.5
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX, down on one knee and larruped over midwicket, that one was more nine iron, it went into the night sky and dropped with a thud in the jubilant crowd …

England have a team meeting. Shuffling deckchairs on the Jolly Roger though …

18.4
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX, Shiver me timbers!: Broad goes round the wicket, bowls a filthy wide full toss and Yuvraj steers it over backward point and it clears the rope again

18.3
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX, he’s hitting them everywhere, he steps to leg and smashes the ball over extra cover and it keeps on travelling … the fireworks start on top of the scoreboard … they’ve been going off in the middle for some time

18.2
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX, now that really is sweet, no more than a dismissive flick off his legs, swatting a fly, and the ball arcs deep into the crowd beyond backward square leg

The dodgy TV measurement says that’s 111 yards … but as it landed outside the ground how the whatsists do they know? They guess, that’s how.

18.1
Broad to Yuvraj Singh, SIX, that’s out the ground, super shot over cow corner and it just kept going up

What a man he is, full of power packed shots, especially the second six which was effortless and the best of the six sixes, poor englishmen waked up this hungry lion with loose mouths and payed a very heavy price for it.

i loved watching this. Flintoff deserved to be put in his place. He is an arrogant, over-rated and selfish player. He has not problems in sledging furiously and using any underhand method on offer. He tries to upset Yuvraj at the crease since he could not do it with the ball. Look at his face while Yuvraj humiliates his team.
    Chak De India ! ! !
