India to Host First Formula One Race in 2010

The wait for an F1 race in India just got longer. It is now going to make its debut in India in 2010, and not in October 2009 as announced earlier in June. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said on Monday it was on course to stage a Formula One grand prix after an inspection of possible sites around New Delhi. Two sites, Sohna in Gurgaon and Greater Noida have been identified for the race - both sites are in the National Capital Region. Karun Chandhok became the first Indian driver to win a GP2 Series event.
Karun Chandhok has taken an emotional victory in Spa-Francorchamps for Durango, the first indian ever in the GP2 Series and Durango’s first win since Nurburgring 2005. A clearly overwhelmed Karun wept on the podium as the Indian national anthem rang out for the first time at a Grand Prix. Karun won the race with a stunning pass on Andy Soucek who finished second top take DPR’s first podium of the season, with Lucas di Grassi third for ART Grand Prix.
This win has pushed the 23-year-old up five places from 19th to 15th in the standings with 15 points.

F1 Spygate – Mclaren Disqualified From 2007 Constructors’ Championship

McLaren have been stripped of their points in the 2007 Formula One constructors' championship.
The FIA World Motor Sport Council has disqualified McLaren from the 2007 constructors' championship and fined the team $100 million, which is a biggest fine in motorsport history. After a day of discussions and considerations at the hearing in Paris, the governing body decided to punish the team for possessing the confidential Ferrari data.
The decision to exclude Mclaren, who were leading the Constructors' Championship with 166 points results in handing over the title to Ferrari who has got 143 points. However, McLaren's drivers have not received any penalty. Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso's battle for the world championship will therefore continue unaffected in the remaining four rounds.

The Liquor Baron, Vijay Mallya, chairman and CEO of Kingfisher Airlines and Dutch entrepreneur Michiel Mol look set to become the new owners of the Spyker Formula One team, which was bought from the Midland Group only a year ago by sportscar makers Spyker Cars. Former triple Formula One motor racing champion Nelson Piquet has been sent to driving awareness school for repeated speeding and parking offences. The 54-year-old Nelson Piquet, who won the titles in 1981, 1983 and 1987 lost his license last month after a series of speeding and parking offenses. He didn't contest the charges. Piquet's wife, Viviane, also joined her husband in the class after having her license taken away for bad driving. The Liquor Baron, Vijay Mallya, chairman and CEO of Kingfisher Airlines, is targeting to bring Formula One to India by 2010 if not 2009. A few months back, Vijay Mallya had met Shiela Dikshit to express his willingness to support in hosting the event.
