Big shots owe Mumbai in Crores

August 2nd, 2007

Guess who’s grilling big shots and millionaires of Mumbai…….none other than Gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli. What a bloody power he’s got!!!

The state assembly was informed today that some of the Brand ambassadors, celebrities, film makers, malls and mobile companies owe the Maharashtra Government Rs 13.32 crore towards stamp duty.

Arun Gawli had asked as to whether the state government had incurred a revenue loss of Rs 50 crore as a result of the defaulting parties not paying stamp duty on agreements or what?

The defaulters include cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and some Bollywood personalities like Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu and director Priyadarshan.

In reply to a query by Arun Gawli of Akhil Bharatiya Sena, Revenue Minister Narayan Rane gave this information in a written reply.

Notices and reminders have been issued to the defaulter companies and individuals and if they fail to respond, action would be initiated against them as per provisions of the Mumbai Stamp Act 1958.
Bharti Airtel has challenged the notice seeking Rs 12.12 crore stamp duty in the High Court and the matter is sub-judice, Rane told the house. The recovery of the remaining Rs 1.20 crore is awaited, the minister said.

The brand ambassadors who have not responded to the notice include Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, John Abraham, Saif Ali Khan, Juhi Chawla, Preity Zinta, Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Lara Datta, Mandira Bedi, Sanjay Dutt, Dia Mirza, Karisma Kapoor, Zaheer Khan and Malaika Arora.

Our big B trying to donate his land to gram sabha of Barabanki in UP to prove that he is a man with a big heart (once a while). But can somebody please ask him what about the money he owes to the Maharashtra state. It’s such a shame that big names and bloody millionaires owe state so much money. Whereas middle class man always pay his dues in time.
