The rice is cooked along with the sambar made from freshly ground spices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong>    <br \/>1 cup toovar (arhar) dal (washed)     <br \/>1 cup uncooked rice (washed)     <br \/>\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00bc cup French beans (chopped)     <br \/>\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00bc cup carrots (chopped)     <br \/>\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00bd cup potatoes (cubed)&#160; <br \/>\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00bd cup capsicums (cubed)     <br \/>\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00bd tsp turmeric powder&#160; <br \/>3 curry leaves     <br \/>2 tbsp tamarind pulp     <br \/>2 tsp oil     <br \/>salt to taste     <br \/><strong>For the powdered masala:<\/strong>    <br \/>2 tbsp chana dal&#160; <br \/>2 tbsp urad dal&#160; <br \/>2 sticks cinnamon (dalchini)     <br \/>\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00bd dry coconut     <br \/>8 whole dry red chillies     <br \/>3 tbsp coriander (dhania) seeds     <br \/>1 tbsp oil     <br \/><strong>Method:      <br \/><\/strong>1. Boil the vegetables and keep aside. Roast the ingredients to be powdered on a medium flame till aromatic. Cool and dry. Grind them.     <br \/>2. Boil 5 cups of water in a heavy-bottomed pan, add oil, turmeric powder, toovar dal, salt and cook for 5 to 6 minutes.     <br \/>3. Add the rice, cover and cook over medium flame for 20 minutes, till the rice and dal are cooked.     <br \/>4. When the rice is cooked, add the boiled vegetables, powdered masala, curry leaves, tamarind pulp and salt, mix gently and cook further for five minutes     <br \/>5.
